I work in the GIS lab creating and interpreting maps for different areas around the Mississippi and Illinois rivers. I manually digitize, and create land cover/use analyses for these areas as well. I am currently gathering as much GIS information for the Minnesota River to start a project that involves setting up a blockade to stop invasive Asian carp from making their way into these unaffected waters. Along with this I have gained proficiency in all aspects of ArcGIS 10.1, including: spatial analysis, spatial statistics, data conversions, vector/raster analysis, data retrieval from external sources, geoprocessing elements, geocoding, and cartography. I also participate in field work with biologists around the environmental science center. My last fieldwork project I did involved traveling to pool 3 on the Mississippi (Red Wing, MN) and collecting data of different vegetation species present in quadrat samples around GPS points assigned. This process required us to dive up to two meters in the water, four spots around the boat and retrieve, sort, label, and save the vegetation. This was done to assess whether or not it was necessary to perform a drawdown on pool 3 using the dams in order to spur vegetative growth. This vegetation is currently drying and will be weighed to make the final assessment.

Duties: This is where I have gained my most recent experience with customer service. I've been in the restaurant industry for about ten years, and talking to people is second nature to me. I was a lead bartender and server here that dealt with money-handling, customer service, and dealing with conflict/change with ease.
